Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) is preparing two solutions to tackle congestion during the Eid homecoming exodus at Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana. The two measures are increasing port capacity and the ferry fleet, and implementing traffic engineering.

AHY said the increase in port capacity needs to be carried out on both the Ketapang and Gilimanuk sides. According to him, this step resulted from his meeting with Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi three days ago.

“Then there is Celukan Bawang, which must also be optimised. Then, regarding the ferry fleet managed by ASDP and other operators, its capacity must also be increased, with more vessels added, including those with larger dimensions,” AHY said after the Bali Regional Development Coordination Meeting at the Bali Governor’s Office on Monday (20/7/2026).

In addition to increasing port capacity, AHY said traffic engineering and an evaluation of the arrival, unloading and departure systems are short-term solutions that can be implemented immediately to untangle congestion.

“In the long term, there will certainly be efforts to develop better multimodal connectivity, but in the short term, we must also carry out something like traffic engineering, both in Bali and in the Banyuwangi area,” he said.

The Chairman of the Democratic Party hopes that the combination of these two measures can reduce traffic density so that the mobility of passengers, goods and services is no longer disrupted.

“But it also causes discomfort, and could even cause people to suffer fatigue, illness, dehydration and so on. So that is what we can do in the meantime,” AHY explained.
