AHY: Power is a Public Mandate with a Time Limit
Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has reminded his cadres not to be lulled into complacency by power. He assessed that positions have a time limit and must be used entirely to serve the community.
He expressed this while highlighting the dynamics of the political journey and the position of the Democratic Party, which is currently within the circle of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.
AHY requested all cadres, whether in the executive, legislative, or regional leadership, to remain sensitive and honest towards the realities experienced by the people on the ground.
“We should learn from the 10 years of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s administration, including when the transition of power occurred peacefully and democratically after two terms. Power does not belong to one person forever. Power is a mandate from the people that has a time limit,” said AHY during the Political Speech for the 25th Anniversary of the Democratic Party, at the Democratic Party Headquarters, Saturday (5/9).
He emphasised that the party’s presence in the government is not merely to celebrate victory or pursue seats, but to oversee strategic programmes to ensure they have a direct impact on public welfare.
“Policies that are truly good for the people must be supported and monitored by us. Those that are not yet perfect, we must help to improve. And we must remain honest about the realities felt by the people. Because what we are fighting for is not solely the success of one party. What we are fighting for is the success of Indonesia,” he asserted.
Furthermore, AHY also advised his cadres to consistently provide tangible work amidst the various economic challenges still faced by citizens, ranging from issues of purchasing power to the availability of quality employment.
“Do not only appear when we need the people’s votes. Appear when the people need our work. Do not ask what we can gain from politics. Ask what we can give through politics,” AHY stated.
