AHY: Power Does Not Belong to One Person Forever
Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has reminded that power has a time limit. He assessed that power is a mandate from the people that must be carried out with full responsibility.
This statement was delivered by AHY during his speech at the 25th Anniversary of the Democratic Party. “The Democratic Party has led the government and has also been outside of government. We have won and we have lost,” said AHY on Saturday (5/9/2026).
According to AHY, these experiences provide lessons that democracy must be maintained under any circumstances. AHY subsequently referenced the administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), including the transition of power after two terms of leadership.
“We should learn from the ten years of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s administration, including when the transition of power took place peacefully and democratically after two terms,” he said.
AHY emphasised that power cannot be held by one person forever. “Power does not belong to one person forever. Power is a mandate from the people that has a time limit,” he concluded.
Equal treatment under the law
On the same occasion, AHY also asserted that all citizens must receive equal treatment before the law. He reminded that the law must not be influenced by an individual’s status or their proximity to power.
