Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has highlighted Indonesia’s current economic condition, which is being influenced by global circumstances. AHY stated that Indonesia must be able to build resilience and independence, primarily in the food sector.

“Indonesia must build resilience and independence, especially in the fields of food, energy, and water; strengthen competitiveness; expand connectivity; and ensure that development becomes increasingly equitable,” said AHY during his speech at the 25th Anniversary of the Democratic Party at the Democratic Party Headquarters, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (5/9/2026).

On the other hand, AHY expressed that building this resilience and independence must be accompanied by clear measures. According to him, building resilience and independence should not only be measured by how much the economy grows, but by how many people grow along with it.

The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development also mentioned that development must open new growth centres, expand employment opportunities, and bring about equitable prosperity. Furthermore, he emphasised that Indonesia’s natural wealth can be utilised to achieve added value without neglecting environmental preservation.

“Our natural resource wealth must be processed into added value and jobs, but development must not sacrifice the environment,” said AHY.

“Let us not allow our generation to enjoy today’s growth while the next generation inherits the damage. This is intergenerational justice,” he concluded.
