AHY Meets Defence Minister to Discuss National Airspace Security
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) met with Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to discuss policy synchronisation on infrastructure, national connectivity, and the security of Indonesia’s airspace. The meeting at the Ministry of Defence office also highlighted the importance of cross-sector coordination in safeguarding national sovereignty. AHY stated that policy synchronisation is crucial to achieving integrated national development while simultaneously strengthening defence aspects. “In this meeting, we focused on discussing the synchronisation of infrastructure policies and national connectivity, as well as strategic measures for securing and controlling national airspace,” AHY wrote on his Instagram account @agusyudhoyono on Thursday (25/6/2026). AHY explained that airspace security is a vital element for maintaining state sovereignty, ensuring airspace safety, and supporting the development of integrated transport infrastructure. According to him, the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development together with the Ministry of Defence will continue to strengthen synergy in supporting secure national connectivity. Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin stated that the security and control of airspace is a strategic aspect that affects national resilience. “This meeting discussed the security and control of national airspace as an important part of efforts to safeguard state sovereignty,” Sjafrie wrote via his Instagram account @sjafrie.sjamsoeddin. Sjafrie assessed that strong air defence will provide support for strengthening the national economy through the Defence Supporting Economy programme. However, he did not elaborate further on the results of the discussion or the concrete steps to be taken following the meeting. He expressed hope that coordination between the Ministry of Defence and the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development would become closer, thereby supporting the strengthening of the defence system as well as national development. The meeting between the two ministers was also marked by a cordial atmosphere. Several photos uploaded to social media showed AHY and Sjafrie engaged in warm conversation during the discussion of the strategic agenda.
