AHY Invites Indonesian Diaspora in Russia to Collaborate on National Development
Every international diplomacy requires complex coordination. We truly appreciate the dedication of the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow in maintaining and strengthening the good relations between Indonesia and the Russian Federation,” stated AHY in a written statement on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
The invitation was delivered by AHY during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Russian Federation, Jose A.M. Tavares, officials from the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, and representatives of the Indonesian diaspora in Russia on Sunday (31/5/2026) local time.
The meeting was part of the second series of Indonesia-Russia Bilateral Consultations, held at the invitation of the Chairman of the Russian Maritime Council, Nikolai P. Patrushev. This agenda follows the first Bilateral Consultation in November 2025, which resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding maritime infrastructure and connectivity.
This activity also continues the Strategic Partnership Declaration signed by President Prabowo Subianto and President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on 19 June 2025. The declaration covers 18 strategic cooperation sectors, ranging from maritime, transport, and infrastructure to energy and disaster management.
During the occasion, AHY expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, noting its vital role in strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia.
Addressing the diaspora, AHY outlined several national priority programmes aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s ‘Asta Cita’ mission, specifically to support the national economic growth target of 8 per cent. These programmes include the construction of the Giant Sea Wall on the North Coast of Java, accelerated post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction, the ‘Indonesia ASRI’ movement for slum and fishing village redevelopment, the 3 Million Houses Development Programme, the expansion of railway networks and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) based mass transport, the implementation of the Zero Over Dimension Over Load (Zero ODOL) policy, strengthening water security, and the development of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN).
According to AHY, infrastructure development aims not only to drive economic growth but also to support food, energy, and water self-sufficiency, strengthen national connectivity, ensure equitable regional development, and maintain environmental sustainability.
In this context, AHY believes the Indonesian diaspora in Russia holds a highly strategic position to contribute to national development. “The Indonesian diaspora is not merely a representation of the nation abroad, but a strategic partner in national development. We see many opportunities for collaboration that can be developed, ranging from knowledge transfer, business network development, and investment promotion to the strengthening of technology and innovation diplomacy,” said Minister AHY.
He added that the diaspora could serve as a bridge to unlock various cooperation opportunities in trade, education, research, energy, maritime, logistics, and infrastructure.
AHY explained that the government is currently pushing to increase the export of various flagship Indonesian products to the Russian market, such as fisheries, coffee, spices, and maritime products. Therefore, the diaspora is expected to assist in expanding distribution networks and market access for Indonesian products.
“We hope the diaspora can be part of the solution to expand Indonesia’s trade networks in Russia, while simultaneously opening wider economic cooperation opportunities between the two countries,” he said.
Furthermore, AHY encouraged the mapping and consolidation of the Indonesian diaspora in Russia in a more structured manner based on their areas of expertise and potential contributions.
Concluding the meeting, AHY emphasised the importance of strengthening the bond between Indonesia and its diaspora as a mutually supportive long-term partnership. “This meeting is not merely a social gathering, but a manifestation of the strong bond between the homeland and the sons and daughters of the nation working abroad. Let us continue to maintain connections, strengthen collaboration, and together contribute to an Indonesia that is increasingly advanced, prosperous, and globally competitive,” concluded Minister AHY.
