AHY instructs Democrat Party councillors to champion people's aspirations
Democrat Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has instructed all members of the Democrat Party faction in provincial and district/city legislative councils (DPRD) to continue fighting for the people’s aspirations through concrete work and pro-people policies.
Speaking in Pacitan, East Java, on Friday, AHY said, ‘I also express my gratitude to all Democrat cadres who are present among the community every day. The people do not know us by the positions we hold. The people will know us by the benefits we bring.’
The instruction was delivered by AHY as he opened the first wave of the National Technical Guidance (Bimteknas) for Democrat Party Faction Members of Provincial and District/City DPRD from across Indonesia at the SBY-Ani Museum and Gallery in Pacitan, East Java, on Thursday evening.
He urged all Democrat Party DPRD members to optimise their legislative, budgeting, and oversight functions to produce policies that favour the public. According to AHY, these functions must be directed towards supporting job creation, strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), infrastructure development, improving the quality of education, health services, and public services.
‘Use the legislative function to create policies that side with the people. Use the budgeting function so that every rupiah of the regional budget provides maximum benefit, and use the oversight function to ensure the government runs effectively, cleanly, and accountably,’ he stated.
He also said that politics must be interpreted as a path of service, not merely a struggle for power. Therefore, the Democrat Party will continue to support government policies that favour the people and deliver objective, constructive, and responsible criticism when necessary.
Furthermore, AHY invited all cadres to strengthen internal consolidation through the spirit of ‘Trust and Togetherness’, maintain organisational solidity, and build political communication that is polite and empathetic towards the community.
‘When the people say, when we needed them, the Democrats were present. When we faced difficulties, the Democrats worked. When we needed hope, the Democrats did not abandon us. That is the true victory,’ he said.
The first wave of the Bimteknas was attended by Democrat Party DPRD faction members from 13 provinces: East Java, Central Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi, North Maluku, Jambi, West Sumatra, South Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, Aceh, Banten, and East Kalimantan.
