During the visit, AHY emphasised the importance of improving infrastructure development and area planning to create a liveable, productive environment with economic value for coastal communities.

AHY explained that Ketapang Urban Aquaculture is an area of approximately 14 hectares developed from 2019 to 2021 through collaboration among various parties.

The area, which was previously slum-like, has now transformed into a more organised, green, and comfortable residential environment.

“The main point is the reorganisation of a previously slum area into a much more liveable and green residential environment. There are approximately 127 houses, and earlier I greeted the fishing families who have lived here,” said AHY in a written statement on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

According to AHY, infrastructure development should not only focus on physical aspects but also create a new economic ecosystem for the community.

Therefore, the area is being promoted as a centre for integrated productive activities linked to the fisheries sector and community micro-enterprises.

“When the fishermen go to sea and engage in fish or shrimp aquaculture, their wives and families can also be productive by processing the catch and aquaculture products. Some are processed into fish balls, shrimp crackers, otak-otak, and so on,” explained AHY.

“So there is added economic value that can be brought to this area,” added AHY.

In addition to residential reorganisation, AHY also highlighted the presence of dense mangrove areas as a step to protect the coast from abrasion and climate change impacts.

AHY assessed that this ecological approach is very important for archipelagic regions like Indonesia.

“This is an effort to secure the area from abrasion. It’s very good because the challenges for an archipelagic country like Indonesia require coastal protection through mangrove planting,” said AHY.

In the future, AHY encouraged the continued development of the mangrove area in Ketapang Urban Aquaculture as a new environment-based tourism destination.

According to AHY, the presence of jogging tracks, nature tourism, and sports activities can promote sport tourism and eco-tourism, adding economic value for the surrounding community.

“Sport tourism and eco-tourism are important to increase community activities while having economic value. Hopefully, this area continues to develop and becomes a popular tourism destination,” said AHY.

AHY also appreciated the collaboration between the central government through the Ministry of Public Works (PU) RI, the Tangerang Regency Government through the APBD, and support from various other parties that have brought real change to the area.

According to AHY, such synergy serves as a model for integrated area development that should be expanded to other regions.

AHY added that the government will continue to push for the improvement of area infrastructure, including the construction of breakwaters, abrasion-retaining embankments, river dredging and normalisation, as well as facilities to support fishermen and coastal community activities.

“One programme that we must oversee is the reorganisation of slum areas. The transformation of regions must make them more productive and have economic value that can improve community welfare, including creating job opportunities,” emphasised AHY.

Concluding his visit, AHY hoped that the management of the area by the regional-owned enterprise partner Mitra Kerta Raharja (MKR) would continue professionally so that the area remains clean, comfortable, and develops into a new economic and tourism centre in Tangerang Regency.

For information, the visit was also attended by Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries RI (Wamen KKP) Didit Herdiawan; Deputy Governor of Banten Ahmad Dimyati; Regent of Tangerang Mohamad Maesyal Rasyid; and Forkopimda officials.

Meanwhile, on this occasion, AHY was accompanied by Deputy for Coordinating Housing Development and Settlement Infrastructure Ronny Ariuly Hutahayan; Special Staff for Regional Development Arif Rahman; Special Staff for Management and Inter-Institutional Cooperation Agust Jovan Latuconsina; Special Staff for Law and Regulation Sigit Raditya Staf; and Special Staff for Communication and Public Information Herzaky Mahendra Putra, as well as Expert Staff Yudhi Prasetyo Purnomo and Rio Neswan.
