AHY Impressed by Mrican Village in Sleman, Once Slum, Now Neatly Organised
Kampung Mrican in Kalurahan Caturtunggal, Kapanewon Depok, Sleman Regency, serves as a real example of transforming a densely populated and slum area into a more liveable environment. The revitalisation carried out since 2023 has begun to show results, attracting the attention of the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, who directly inspected the location on Friday (24/4/2026). In the area spanning approximately 5 hectares, AHY directly witnessed the significant transformation that has occurred. AHY admitted that he had long planned to visit Kampung Mrican to see the results of the area arrangement, which was previously known as a slum and disorganised settlement. “I am very pleased; actually, for quite some time, I have intended and planned to come directly to Mrican Village to see firsthand the arrangement of the area that was previously a slum settlement. Then it can be said that it has been transformed, revitalised with hard work carried out by colleagues from the ranks of the Ministry of Public Works and People’s Housing at that time, PUPR,” said AHY when giving a statement to journalists during his visit to Kampung Mrican on Friday (24/4/2026). AHY described the initial condition of the area, which was full of rubbish piles, especially along the river flow, causing a pungent odour. However, now the face of the area has changed drastically to become neater, greener, and healthier.
