AHY hopes US-Israeli attacks on Iran won't significantly disrupt aviation
Jakarta — Infrastructure Coordinating Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has expressed hope that attacks by Israel and the United States against Iran will not have serious consequences for the aviation sector.
“We will continue to anticipate. I believe this is something we must be able to mitigate, including hopefully not too much disruption to aviation,” he said when met after the Chinese New Year celebration in Jakarta on Saturday.
Nevertheless, he expressed confidence that airlines worldwide would reassess risks, including passenger safety concerns.
“Airlines will also recalculate safety as the number one factor, because their flight paths cannot be predicted, especially in warfare involving long-range missiles and rockets,” he said.
He also hoped the geopolitical issue would end soon, as prolonging it could trigger secondary problems including humanitarian tragedies, security threats, and challenges to the global economy, including Southeast Asia.
As previously reported, Israeli forces launched attacks on Saturday morning against civilian locations and vital infrastructure in Teheran and several other Iranian cities, thereby violating the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The US and Israeli attacks on Iran constitute a violation of Article 2, paragraph (4) of the UN Charter and constitute a clear act of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iran also views the actions of Washington and Tel Aviv as a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
Responding to such aggression is a legitimate right for Iran to retaliate based on Article 51 of the UN Charter, according to the statement of position.
