AHY Hopes the Middle East Conflict Will Not Escalate into World War III

JAKARTA — Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the chairman of the Democratic Party, hopes that the conflict in the Middle East does not develop into a larger war, let alone trigger World War III. He emphasised that all sides must strive to prevent the escalation of the conflict from spreading into a more devastating war. ‘Ladies and gentlemen, of course none of us want the Middle East to become a flashpoint that could lead to a larger war, let alone toward World War III. We must do everything in our power to prevent that from happening,’ AHY said at a buka puasa gathering of the Demokrat Party at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta on Wednesday evening, 4 March 2026. The conflict and warfare have been occurring in various parts of the world, particularly in the Middle East region. AHY believes that the holy month that should be a moment for mutual forgiveness is instead clouded by conflict. He said the situation is highly worrying. ‘Ramadan, which is meant to open the door to mutual forgiveness, has instead become a doorway to mutual destruction. Ramadan, which should bring inner peace, is overshadowed by anxiety, uncertainty, and deep sorrow. This is indeed deeply worrying,’ he added. ‘But rest assured, our hearts, our minds, and our prayers are always with our brothers and sisters in the conflict areas and war zones. Always in our prayers and efforts to provide the best possible solution,’ he concluded.
