AHY Highlights Transformation of Ketapang Urban Aquaculture into a Lush Residential Area
Furthermore, Ketapang Urban Aquaculture, which was previously slum-like, has now transformed into a more organised, lush, and comfortable residential environment. This 14-hectare area was developed from 2019 to 2021 through collaboration among various parties.
“The main point is the reorganisation of a previously slum area into a far more decent and lush residential environment. There are approximately 127 houses, and earlier I greeted the fishing families who have lived here,” said AHY in a written statement on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
During the visit on Thursday (16/4), AHY stressed the importance of enhancing infrastructure development and area organisation to create a liveable, productive environment with economic value for coastal communities.
According to AHY, infrastructure development should not only focus on physical aspects but also create new economic ecosystems for the community.
Therefore, the area is being promoted as an integrated productive activity hub linked to the fisheries sector and community micro-enterprises.
“When fishermen go to sea and engage in fish or shrimp aquaculture, their wives and families can also be productive by processing the catch and aquaculture products. Some are turned into fish balls, shrimp crackers, otak-otak, and so on,” explained AHY.
“So there is an addition of economic value that can be brought to this area,” he added.
In addition to residential organisation, AHY also highlighted the presence of dense mangrove areas as a step to protect the coast from abrasion and climate change impacts.
AHY assessed that such an ecological approach is very important for archipelagic regions like Indonesia.
“This is an effort to secure the area from abrasion. It’s very good because the challenges for an archipelagic country like Indonesia demand coastal protection through mangrove planting,” said AHY.
In the future, AHY encouraged the continued development of the mangrove area in Ketapang Urban Aquaculture as a new environment-based tourism destination.
According to AHY, the presence of jogging tracks, nature tourism, and sports activities can promote sport tourism and eco-tourism, adding economic value for the surrounding community.
“Sport tourism and eco-tourism are important to increase community activities while having economic value. Hopefully, this area continues to develop and becomes a popular tourism destination,” said AHY.
AHY also appreciated the collaboration between the central government through the Ministry of Public Works (PU) of Indonesia, the Tangerang Regency Government through the Regional Budget (APBD), and support from various other parties that have brought real changes to the area.
According to AHY, such synergy serves as a model for integrated area development that should be expanded to other regions.
AHY added that the government will continue to push for the perfection of area infrastructure, including the construction of breakwaters, abrasion-retaining embankments, river dredging and normalisation, as well as facilities supporting fishermen and coastal community activities.
“One programme that we must oversee is the reorganisation of slum areas. The transformation of regions must make them more productive and have economic value that can improve community welfare, including opening up job opportunities,” AHY emphasised.
AHY hopes that the management of the area by the partner Regional-Owned Enterprise Mitra Kerta Raharja (MKR) can continue professionally so that the area remains clean, comfortable, and develops into a new economic and tourism centre in Tangerang Regency.
