The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Territorial Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), has confirmed the government’s readiness of infrastructure and transportation facilities ahead of this year’s Lebaran exodus. The government is focused on ensuring the optimisation of national roads and arterial routes.

“We must ensure our roads are in prime condition, including main roads and arterial roads,” AHY told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

Beyond road infrastructure, the government is also preparing multimodal transport to meet the needs of the public. Land, sea, air and rail transport modes are ensured to be in ready operational condition with adequate fleets.

“This includes providing fare reductions and discounts so that travel is more affordable for people throughout Indonesia,” he said.

On the oversight front, AHY emphasised that related ministries continue to work to ensure the readiness of main routes, including the Trans-Java Toll and Trans-Sumatra Toll sections. According to him, these routes have long stretches and unique challenges.

“Of course I encourage the Ministry of Public Works to continue their work, day, afternoon and night, because the Trans-Java and Trans-Sumatra routes are certainly long and will indeed have considerable challenges, especially in relation to the weather,” he said.

Particularly concerning are weather conditions that could be extreme during the Lebaran exodus period. Heavy rain, he noted, can cause road damage and increase accident risks.

“We must continue to monitor today’s weather conditions; we must be prepared if extreme weather occurs, particularly heavy rain, which could cause damage, and even potentially lead to accidents. I believe we are all focused on that now,” he said.
