AHY Distributes Basic Foodstuffs in West Jakarta, Highlights Impact of Global Conflicts
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – General Chairman of the Democrat Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) provided assistance to thousands of residents on Sunday (12/4/2026). The aid was distributed to help the community, particularly underprivileged groups, amid uncertain global conditions.
“I am at St Andrew’s Church, Kedoya, with the executives and congregation. The spirit of this activity is for the Democrats to continue being part of the solution and to alleviate the burden on the community in need,” said AHY at St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Kedoya, West Jakarta, on Sunday.
He emphasised that social assistance in the form of basic foodstuffs and essential needs was given as a form of concern for the community’s economic conditions. This is because many people are still facing economic pressures at present.
According to the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the uncertain global situation and conflicts in various parts of the world have the potential to impact Indonesia’s economic conditions. The effects of this are now being felt by the community.
“We know the world is currently full of uncertainty. Global conflicts, including in the Middle East, can impact the economy, energy, and the cost of living for the community. Therefore, we must remain vigilant,” said AHY.
Nevertheless, AHY assured that the government is striving to suppress these impacts. Several efforts are being made to ensure that the community is not too affected, including in transportation costs and energy needs.
On that occasion, AHY also explained that the social assistance distributed was part of the Kuda Biru Project programme, a social movement by the Democrat Party. He revealed that the funds for the activity came from the auction of a painting by the 6th President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), which was held during the Democrat Party’s Chinese New Year celebration some time ago.
“The proceeds from the auction of Mr SBY’s painting are fully used for social and humanitarian activities, including today’s assistance,” he said.
The Chairman of the Democrat Party in Jakarta, Mujiyono, added that the social service activity was a tangible form of the party’s presence among the community across communities and religions. According to him, the Easter momentum is the right time to strengthen values of solidarity and social concern.
“We in the DPD Democrat DKI Jakarta want to ensure that the party’s presence is truly felt by the community. This activity is not just ceremonial, but a real manifestation of care for residents in need,” said Mujiyono.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Social Service Committee, Merry Riana, said the event was not just about distributing aid, but also a form of direct presence and concern for the community.
“Aid can be sent, but concern must be present. Mr AHY’s presence here shows real commitment,” said Merry.
