AHY Discusses Three Development Focuses for Bali, from Spatial Planning to Housing
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) held a Regional Development Coordination Meeting for Bali with several ministers and regional heads at the Bali Governor’s Office on Monday (20/7/2026). During the meeting, AHY discussed three focuses for Bali’s regional development.
AHY stated the first focus is delivering sustainable regional spatial planning. According to him, spatial planning must be carried out proportionally so that development proceeds in a balanced manner.
‘Balanced between allocation for the tourism sector, then also for public housing. And on the other hand, we also continue to protect agricultural land to keep it productive, because we must also have food security, which is crucial given the high growth,’ AHY said.
AHY said strengthening basic infrastructure is also a development focus in Bali. He noted that road maintenance and construction need to continue, especially to improve access to northern, eastern, and western Bali.
He also assessed that the development of multimodal transport connectivity must be continuously encouraged. According to him, public transport can be a solution to reduce the congestion and traffic density in Bali that has recently gone viral on social media.
‘The Minister for National Development Planning also reminded us that infrastructure is not only physical but also social infrastructure. This means education, health must also be considered, and clean water is also a very important factor,’ explained the General Chairman of the Democratic Party.
AHY also touched on the congestion during the Eid homecoming flow at Gilimanuk Port. He stated the government has prepared short-term, medium-term, and long-term policies to address this issue.
In addition to spatial planning and infrastructure, AHY said the arrangement of the housing sector and residential areas is the third focus of the coordination meeting.
‘We also have a programme to provide more decent and affordable housing through public housing programmes, which essentially focus on assisting low-income communities,’ he continued.
AHY said the coordination meeting was held to ensure central and local government policies remain synchronised and aligned with local wisdom and the characteristics of the Bali region.
‘Because Bali, once again, is special and unique, and we must maintain its balance. The economy is growing rapidly, tourism is developing, the creative economy is advancing, but we must still pay attention to the culture, local wisdom, and traditions that must also be upheld,’ he concluded.
The coordination meeting was also attended by the Minister of Tourism, the Minister for National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, the Minister of Creative Economy, the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency, as well as regents and mayors throughout Bali.
