AHY directs Demokrat's National Kurban Movement to tackle economic pressures

Demokrat Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has instructed all party members to mark the 1447 H Eid al-Adha with a National Demokrat Kurban Package Sharing Movement, aimed at assisting citizens facing economic pressures. AHY believes Eid al-Adha should be a time to strengthen faith and foster human solidarity. He praised the party’s leadership, senior members, and key cadres for maintaining the spirit of sharing through kurban. ‘Alhamdulillah, the spirit of sharing through kurban has improved each year, with more sacrificial animals being provided by the DPP for distribution to deserving communities,’ he stated on Wednesday (27 May 2026). The DPP has collected and slaughtered 63 cattle for kurban. However, the kurban ritual is not confined to the DPP level but has become a nationwide moral movement carried out through provincial and district-level DPD branches across Indonesia. Meanwhile, Mujiyono, Chairman of the Demokrat Jakarta Provincial DPD, said this year’s kurban is part of the national movement directed by AHY, aimed at reinforcing the party’s presence among the public. ‘This follows the directive from Demokrat Chairman AHY to use Eid al-Adha as an opportunity to strengthen social solidarity and care for the public, especially amid challenging economic conditions,’ he added. He explained that Demokrat Jakarta has prepared 10 cattle for kurban, processed and distributed as approximately 2,000 meat packages across various Jakarta regions. Distribution follows the principle of equity to ensure aid reaches those in need. Mujiyono noted the initiative is not merely an annual religious observance but a demonstration of the party’s responsiveness to socio-economic conditions. With purchasing power and economic conditions under pressure, public need for support and attention has grown increasingly critical. As Secretary of Jakarta Regional House of Representatives’ Commission A, he added that Demokrat’s sharing spirit aims to strengthen communal values and solidarity. Hence, kurban activities involve party cadres and structures to ensure direct community engagement in distribution. He hopes the kurban meat distribution will deliver tangible benefits and foster optimism among the public. ‘Demokrat Jakarta aims to ensure social activities go beyond symbolism to deliver real impact felt by citizens,’ he said.
