Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the Chairman of the Democratic Party, said that his party will continue to safeguard and support the administration of President Prabowo Subianto, including in anticipating the impacts of the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

“The Democratic Party would like to thank Mr President Prabowo Subianto for convening a meeting at the Merdeka Palace last night until late to seriously discuss various worst-case scenarios and, of course, the direct and indirect strategic impacts on Indonesia and our region,” AHY said at the “Iftar with the Democratic Party” event in Jakarta on Wednesday.

AHY also reminded Indonesia to anticipate and mitigate the various risks posed by the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, particularly in the economic, energy security, and food security sectors.

He also praised the government’s diplomatic strategy in de-escalating the Middle East conflict and appreciated the government’s seriousness in pursuing Palestinian independence.

“We truly appreciate all the good intentions and efforts of Mr President, who is assisted by the Foreign Minister and the team, to continue seeking the best solutions that will promote peace and order in the world, especially in the pursuit of Palestinian independence,” he said.

AHY urged Indonesia to continue voicing peace in the Middle East so that the conflict does not widen and develop into a large-scale armed conflict.

The Democratic Party, AHY said, believes there is no conflict that cannot be resolved through dialogue.

“There is no conflict that cannot be resolved through dialogue, and of course with good faith, and there is no difference that cannot be bridged if humanity is placed above all else,” he said.

In a national context, the Democratic Party believes that Indonesia must continually be a bridge in a world that currently seems increasingly polarised.

AHY also stressed that the Democrats are committed to promoting multilateralism, strengthening regional cooperation, and cooperation at the global level.

“And ensuring that our national interests remain protected without neglecting universal humanitarian responsibilities,” he added.
