AHY Concerned His Speech May Be Misinterpreted: Democrats Want the Government to Succeed
The General Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), has provided clarification regarding a political speech delivered four days prior to the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Democratic Party. He revealed that the speech, which was intended to encourage internal members and reaffirm the party’s values, was instead misunderstood as a form of criticism against the government.
AHY admitted his concern that the speech might cause misunderstandings and invite criticism from coalition partners. “On this auspicious occasion, allow me to clarify the content of that political speech because I am worried there has been a misinterpretation,” said AHY during the 25th anniversary commemoration of the Democratic Party at the Indonesia Arena, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (9/9/2026) evening.
He emphasised that the Democratic Party’s position within the Indonesian President’s administration is very clear. The party consistently supports government policies and is invested in the success of the nation’s leadership. “The Democratic Party’s position is clear. We want President Prabonto Subianto’s administration to succeed,” stated AHY at the event, which was attended by President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
According to AHY, the political speech delivered four days earlier was not intended to disrupt the stability of the government. He noted that the speech was part of a period of reflection and contemplation during the Democratic Party’s anniversary momentum.
“Four days ago, Mr President, as part of our reflection and contemplation on our party’s anniversary, I delivered a political speech with a simple intention. We wanted to motivate our members. We wanted to reaffirm the values and the identity of the Democratic struggle, and to ensure all members understand our responsibilities today as part of the government,” AHY said.
He reiterated that the Democratic Party aims to be part of the solution while in government, with no intention to obstruct the administration’s progress. “As part of the government, the Democrats do not want to merely stand on the sidelines. We want to be part of the solution. We do not only want to point out problems, but we want to actively work towards resolving them,” AHY emphasised.
