AHY: Chinese-Indonesian Community Plays Significant Role in National Development
Batam (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said the Chinese-Indonesian community plays a significant role in national development.
"The Chinese-Indonesian community has a significant role and contribution to national development," he said during a working visit coinciding with the celebration of Lunar New Year 2557/2026 in Riau, Batam, on Monday.
On the occasion, he conveyed that the Chinese-Indonesian community has developed many businesses and created employment opportunities, ranging from the industrial, manufacturing, to technology sectors, which form the foundational strength of the city of Batam.
AHY expressed his hope that Batam can continue its transformation in line with its original purpose and design, namely to serve as an economic gateway to the Southeast Asian region, and even to the global economy.
Amid global uncertainty, he also hoped that Batam can grow, advance, modernise, and remain grounded in its distinct identity and character as a peaceful and harmonious city. This is particularly pertinent given that Batam is one of the cities richest in diversity of ethnicity, religion, race, and culture, yet has managed to maintain social harmony and cohesion.
"This year happens to be the Year of the Fire Horse, in the Lunar calendar. If we reflect on its meaning, the horse represents hard work, courage, and of course energy, whilst fire always symbolises a burning spirit and naturally also carries the meaning of transformation, leap after leap," AHY said.
"Hopefully, with the philosophy and spirit of the Fire Horse, we can all be given the strength, energy, and high enthusiasm to continue our work according to our respective professions. This year, may we all achieve greater success financially, in business, as well as in our household lives and in our communal, national, and civic life," he added.
