AHY Calls for Environmental Awareness to Become a Cultural Norm

Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Chairman of the Democratic Party, has called on the public to make environmental awareness a sustainable culture. He stated that preserving nature is a shared responsibility that can begin with simple actions in daily life. AHY noted that Indonesia possesses natural wealth and tourist destinations that must be protected. He emphasised that environmental efforts do not always require large-scale activities, but can start with maintaining the cleanliness of the environment, beaches, and public spaces. ‘We certainly want and must preserve all of this so that our environment remains clean, the sky stays blue, meaning no pollution, so everything is clean. This will make our lives more comfortable, healthy, and civilised,’ AHY said in a written statement on Friday (24/7/2026). AHY explained that the Democratic Party is holding the ‘Langit Biru Indonesia Asri’ National Movement as part of the party’s 25th anniversary commemoration. The activities include environmental clean-ups, tree planting, free health check-ups, and the painting of places of worship and public facilities. He expressed hope that these activities would not only create a cleaner environment but also have a positive impact on the tourism sector and the regional economy. He believes a well-maintained environment can support the development of the creative economy and micro, small, and medium enterprises. ‘This action is being carried out simultaneously in various regions. The Democratic Party will engage all groups, especially young people and students, because a culture of cleanliness must be instilled from an early age. Cleanliness will foster a better quality of life,’ he said. AHY hopes the spirit of environmental stewardship will continue and not stop after the party’s anniversary commemoration ends. He believes environmental awareness must become part of the community’s character. By the third week of implementation, the Gerakan Nasional Langit Biru Indonesia Asri had been held on 10, 17, and 24 July 2026 by 181 Democratic Party Branch Executive Boards across various regions. The activities were attended by 31,243 participants through 217 actions, including environmental clean-ups, tree planting, free health check-ups, and the painting of public facilities and places of worship.
