AHY and Team Report to Prabowo on Giant Pantura Sea Wall, When Will It Be Built?
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting on infrastructure and regional development at the State Palace on Tuesday (12/5/2025). The meeting discussed plans for constructing a sea wall along the north coast of Java.
The meeting was attended by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, CEO of BPI Danantara Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, and Head of the Java North Coast Authority Didit Herdiawan.
“We reported on the concept for developing and protecting the North Coast of Java,” said AHY after the meeting.
He stated that the northern Java region faces issues of land subsidence and tidal flooding due to rising sea levels. Therefore, a sea wall is needed to protect tens of millions of people in the Pantura area and surrounding industrial centres.
On that occasion, Didit Herdiawan also reported to the president that there are 15 segments for sea wall construction along the north coast of Java from Serang to Gresik. However, they are still delving into the thematic aspects of each area to accommodate appropriate economic values in each segment.
“Thus, further assessment is required,” he said.
However, when asked about when this sea wall will be built, he said it is still under calculation.
“For the timeline, we are arranging the implementation of this activity, calculating the backward planning for how long it will take. Because all components must be included,” he said.
According to him, the construction points in each segment have not yet been decided, as further study is needed.
“For example, first in Jakarta Bay, in Central Java, West Java, and so on. But for the 15 segments, there are sub-segments and sections within them that require collaboration,” he explained.
Rosan Roeslani also could not yet confirm Danantara’s investment in this project.
“We will always coordinate with the Head of the Java North Coast Authority Management Agency to ensure the perfection of the masterplan. And then we will see its development, so it’s not just building the giant sea wall but also points to boost the economy, increase investment, and provide positive impacts on the economy,” he clarified.
