The Speaker of the MPR RI, Ahmad Muzani, has emphasised the importance of the role of journalists in conveying various parliamentary activities and works to the public. According to him, without media coverage, the various meetings, discussions, and ideas undertaken by the MPR cannot be communicated to the people.

“I cannot imagine what the MPR’s activities would be like without news coverage from our colleagues. Our work, our meetings, our discussions, and our thoughts would never reach the community if there were no one to relay them through news reporting,” Muzani stated in a statement on Monday (2/29/2026).

Muzani made these remarks while delivering a speech during the MPR RI Media Gathering in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday (27/9).

Muzani stated that parliamentary work is essentially a political process that requires news coverage so that the various processes and decisions occurring within the institution can be known by the public.

“Media is very important to our working process, because parliamentary work is fundamentally a political process that needs to be continued through news reporting to the people,” he said.

Muzani acknowledged that journalists have their own methods and perspectives in reporting an event. In his view, the most important thing is to ensure that information regarding the MPR’s work reaches the public accurately while upholding journalistic principles.

“The essence is how our colleagues will convey what the MPR communicates to the people. Therefore, the work of a journalist is a very noble endeavour,” he added.

During the event, Muzani also emphasised the importance of neutrality in news reporting. He noted that journalists hold a strategic position as information conduits between state institutions and the public, meaning that reporting must be presented in a balanced manner.

“Reporting from any side as a mouthpiece to the community must remain in a neutral condition in its delivery,” he said.

Muzani also reminded that the journalistic profession carries significant risks, particularly when journalists perform their duties to obtain information or footage directly in the field.

Muzani cited the bravery of journalists in performing their journalistic duties from the era of the struggle for independence through to the early days of Indonesia. He also referenced the documentation of the Proclamation of Independence on 17 August 1945 as vital evidence of the role of journalists in recording the nation’s history.

According to Muzani, the struggle of journalists to obtain and preserve the documentation of important events demonstrates that the journalistic profession is not only about delivering information but also about contributing to the nation’s historical journey.

“Journalists are fighters. Why are journalists called fighters? What journalists do is the same as what we all do as members of the MPR. They fight for the truth, they fight for glory, and they fight for their nation and country,” he asserted.

Muzani added that while the struggles of journalists and parliament members take place in different spheres, both share the same goal of contributing to the nation and state.

“On behalf of the leadership of the Assembly, I express my sincere gratitude to all journalists in Senayan, who continue to stand with us in reporting, voicing, and delivering various news sourced from the MPR,” he concluded.

In addition to Ahmad Muzani, the event was also attended by the Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI Bambang Wuryanto, Acting Secretary General of the MPR RI Siti Fauzia, Deputy for Administration of the MPR RI Heri Herawan, Chairman of the Parliament Journalists Coordinatorate (KWP) Ariawan, Chairman of the National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) RI Sodik Mudjahid, as well as Echelon II officials and employees of the MPR RI Secretariat General.

Furthermore, the 2026 MPR Media Gathering was attended by over 70 media outlets under the Parliament Journalists Coordinatorate (KWP). The event served as a momentum to strengthen ties, improve communication, and enhance synergy in supporting the MPR RI’s communication and information dissemination to the public.
