The event, organised by Bank Indonesia’s Central Java Representative Office with support from the Central Java Provincial Government, was attended by around 4,000 runners divided into 5K and 10K categories. Besides being a sporting event, this activity also aims to encourage the public to love the rupiah more while strengthening the spirit of sharing. “With this activity, the public is educated to love the rupiah,” he said in a written statement on Sunday (5/7/2026). According to him, the growing trend of running can be utilised as an educational medium while encouraging the growth of the sport tourism sector in Central Java. The impact is not only felt by the tourism sector, but also by MSME players, communities, and various other supporting businesses. “Supporting sport tourism is also important. The impact is that MSMEs can thrive, other businesses thrive, and other communities thrive,” he said. Therefore, he encouraged all regents and mayors in Central Java to develop various potential locations that can be turned into sport tourism destinations. He also expressed appreciation to Bank Indonesia for organising the Rupiah Borobudur Playon 2026 and various programmes supporting the banking and economic sectors in Central Java. Meanwhile, the Head of Bank Indonesia’s Central Java Representative Office, M. Noor Nugroho, said the Rupiah Borobudur Playon 2026 is the fourth edition, which not only aims to boost the community’s economy but also to increase literacy regarding loving, being proud of, and understanding the rupiah. “This is in line with our theme ‘Run to Share’, so there is an element of sharing here. We will donate all registration fees to the community here, so several villages will receive it. There is around Rp600 million that we will hand over to 10 villages,” he explained. In addition to the running race, the event also featured 53 MSME stands dominated by food and beverage businesses, textile products, and various thematic stands from several agencies. Previously, the series of events was also filled with the Food Inflation Control for Welfare Movement (GPIPS). One participant from Magelang, Rizal, admitted to having participated in the Rupiah Borobudur Playon three times. In this year’s event, he and his colleagues wore large coin-shaped accessories as a campaign for environmental awareness. “This is also for an environmental campaign. Hopefully, this event will be even more crowded in the future,” he concluded.
