The event, organised by the Bank Indonesia Central Java Representative Office with support from the Central Java Provincial Government, was attended by approximately 4,000 runners divided into 5K and 10K categories. In addition to being a sporting event, the activity aimed to encourage the public to develop a greater love for the Rupiah while strengthening the spirit of sharing.
“Through this activity, the community is educated to love the Rupiah,” he stated in a written statement on Sunday (5/7/2026).
He noted that the growing trend of running can be utilised as an educational medium while simultaneously driving the growth of the sport tourism sector in Central Java. The impact is felt not only in the tourism sector but also by MSMEs, communities, and various other supporting businesses.
“This supports sport tourism, which is also important. The impact is that MSMEs can thrive, other businesses can thrive, and other communities can thrive,” he said.
Consequently, he encouraged all regents and mayors in Central Java to develop various potential locations that could serve as sport tourism destinations. He also expressed his appreciation to Bank Indonesia for organising the Rupiah Borobudur Playon 2026 and for various programmes that support the banking sector and the economy in Central Java.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bank Indonesia Central Java Representative Office, M. Noor Nugroho, stated that the Rupiah Borobudur Playon 2026 is the fourth instalment, aiming not only to stimulate the local economy but also to increase literacy regarding loving, being proud of, and understanding the Rupiah.
“This aligns with our theme, ‘Running to Share’, so there is an element of sharing here. All registration fees will be donated to the local community; several villages will receive funds. There is approximately Rp600 million that will be handed over to 10 villages,” he explained.
In addition to the running race, the event featured 53 MSME stalls, dominated by food and beverage entrepreneurs, textile (wastra) products, and various thematic stalls from several agencies. Previously, the series of events also included the Prosperous Food Inflation Control Movement (GPIPS).
One participant from Magelang, Rizal, admitted to having participated in the Rupiah Borobudur Playon three times. In this year’s event, he and his companion wore large coin-shaped accessories as part of an environmental awareness campaign.
“This is also for an environmental campaign. The hope is that this event will become even more crowded in the future,” he concluded.
