Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi stated that the Kecamatan Berdaya (Empowered Subdistricts) programme is one of the provincial government’s strategies to accelerate region-based development, prompting the administration to partner with students on community service programmes (KKN). “This will certainly be very helpful for regional development,” Luthfi said on Tuesday (7/7/26). He explained that Central Java has approximately 8,710 villages with differing characteristics, making the subdistrict the focal point for strengthening programmes so that village development is more targeted. He expressed hope that KKN students would provide input based on real community conditions through synergy with higher education institutions, ensuring that KKN is not merely an academic obligation but also delivers tangible benefits to society.

Lasma Siombing, a KKN participant from the Faculty of Medicine at Diponegoro University (Undip), said she had prepared various programmes tailored to the issues in her assigned village. Posted to Kunti Village in Andong Subdistrict, Boyolali Regency, she plans to create health education programmes for schoolchildren, covering clean living habits and dental screening. Similarly, Naila Safa Zuri, a KKN participant from Undip’s Faculty of Science and Mathematics, will implement a programme to process organic waste into eco-enzymes in Jendi Village, Selogiri Subdistrict, Wonogiri Regency. The programme was designed after her group identified problems with drought and waste management in the village. “Based on our survey yesterday, several problems are already visible,” Zuri said.

Undip Rector Suharnomo stated that the university will continue to support the provincial government’s programmes through regular and thematic KKN tailored to regional needs, such as strengthening MSMEs, reducing stunting, lowering maternal mortality rates, and community empowerment. On the same day, Vice Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen also despatched KKN students from Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) Purwokerto to carry out similar programmes in their assigned areas.
