Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has assured that public services and the machinery of government in Sukoharjo Regency will continue to run normally, even though Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani was caught in a sting operation (Operasi Tangkap Tangan, OTT) by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Luthfi stated that he fully supports the KPK’s steps in combating corruption. He emphasised that all officials must uphold the principles of clean and good governance, championing transparency, accountability and integrity.

The Central Java Provincial Government will also send a team to accompany the Sukoharjo Regency Government to ensure that services to the public are not disrupted.

“Whoever the leader is who runs into trouble, government and public services must not be disrupted,” Luthfi said on Friday (10/7/2026).

The KPK carried out the sting operation in Sukoharjo Regency on Thursday evening (9/7) and secured several individuals, including Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani.

Etik Suryani was taken to Jakarta on Friday morning (10/7). Her legal status has yet to be determined by the KPK. The anti-graft body still has 24 hours to decide the legal status of those secured, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo revealed that the sting operation targeting Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani relates to an alleged extortion case against regional apparatus officials within the Sukoharjo Regency Government.

The regent was not alone: the KPK’s operation in the Solo Raya area also netted four other individuals.

Journalists were not permitted to approach the main building where questioning took place, and were only allowed to monitor from a distance.
