Ahmad Dofiri: President Prabowo Wants All Institutions Reformed, Not Just Polri
Jakarta - The President’s Special Advisor for Security, Public Order, and Police Reform, retired General of Police Ahmad Dofiri, stated that President Prabowo Subianto wants all government institutions to undergo reform.
“The Commission for the Acceleration of Police Reform has been carrying out its activities for nearly three months, and this is in accordance with the instructions from the President when we were gathered,” Dofiri said during a press conference in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
“So the order is very clear: cast a wide net for input from the public, and the President conveyed that what he wants is indeed for all institutions to be reformed,” Dofiri continued.
In addition, Polri serves as the frontline in law enforcement.
“Therefore, the President said, ‘Okay, we start with Polri’,” he explained.
“Well, that’s why it’s important that Polri, as the law enforcement apparatus, is connected to that,” he concluded.
The Chairman of the KPRP, Jimly Asshiddiqie, mentioned that one of the recommendations approved by Prabowo is the strengthening of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas).
“The President strongly agrees to the strengthening of Kompolnas; the Indonesian Republic Police Commission will be strengthened so that its decisions and recommendations are binding,” Jimly said after meeting Prabowo.
In the future, Kompolnas membership is proposed not to be based on positions or ex officio related to other government institutions, but rather its membership will be independent.
“The President has chosen that he will still follow what is currently in place,” said the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra.
“That is, he will propose the candidate for police chief to the DPR to obtain approval, and then he will appoint the proposed candidate as the police chief,” he continued.
