Daily Chairman of the PSI Central Executive Board, Ahmad Ali, has emphasised that his party will not abandon Grace Natalie in the case of alleged incitement and hate speech that implicates Jusuf Kalla (JK).

Ali made this statement while dismissing perceptions that PSI has left Grace to face her legal troubles alone.

“No matter what, this party will never detach from Ms Grace, let alone abandon her. Absolutely, because she is one of the most important people in the birth of this party,” he said when contacted on Thursday (6/5).

Ali explained that institutionally, the party cannot interfere in the case. However, personally, he admitted he will continue to assist Grace as the Secretary of the PSI Advisory Board as well as a founder and former general chairman.

“Institutionally, we must say that PSI is not involved in this institutional matter because the one reported is Ms Grace as an individual. PSI is not a legal aid institution, right?” Ali said.

“But does that mean we will let Ms Grace be? No. Personally, the cadres in PSI will certainly try to provide personal assistance to Ms Grace in facing this case,” he added.

The former NasDem politician said he will open communications with various parties so that the case can be resolved through mediation. Not only with the complainant, but also with Jusuf Kalla whose name was mentioned in Grace’s video content.

Ali believes that Grace Natalie is merely a victim of a video clip to which she added narration. Therefore, in this case, the authorities must also trace the source of the video.

“I hope this case can be mediated so it doesn’t need to proceed because it will only drain our energy, when there are still many things we need to discuss,” he said.

Grace was reported along with her colleague Ade Armando and social media activist Permadi Arya. The report was received and registered under number LP/B/185/V/2026/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 4 May 2026, filed by 40 Islamic organisations united in the Alliance for Religious Harmony.

The reporting relates to the controversy over the narrative of the three in their respective posts regarding a clip from a sermon by the 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK), at the UGM Mosque.

JK’s speech at the time explained the conflicts in Poso and Ambon as reflections or lessons regarding the importance of maintaining religious harmony. The report was received and registered under number LP/B/185/V/2026/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 4 May 2026.

To date, Grace has not responded regarding the report against her, including the party’s decision not to provide legal assistance.
