Daily Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Ahmad Ali, has spoken out regarding the report against the 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK), over alleged blasphemy. The report was submitted by one of PSI’s cadres, Sahat Martin Philip Sinurat, to Metro Jaya Police some time ago.

Ahmad Ali acknowledged that Sahat is the Head of the Politics Division in PSI. However, he emphasised that PSI is not involved in the reporting.

“PSI has no business with the reports against Mr Jusuf Kalla,” said Ahmad Ali after meeting the 7th President, Joko Widodo, at his residence in Sumber, Solo, Central Java, on Thursday (16/4).

In addition to being an official in PSI, Sahat also serves as the General Chairman of the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI). According to Ahmad Ali, Sahat reported JK in line with the aspirations of that Christian organisation.

“If GAMKI feels disappointed due to a misunderstanding, for example, over Mr JK’s statement, it’s reasonable because GAMKI is a Christian organisation,” said Ahmad Ali.

On the other hand, Ahmad Ali and JK are both officials in the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI). JK holds the position of General Chairman, while Ahmad Ali is the Chairman of the Central Sulawesi Regional Leadership.

He said he would try to mediate the ongoing dispute between Sahat and JK at Metro Jaya Police.

“Sahat is my younger brother, Mr JK is my older brother. Insyaallah, I will try my utmost to bring them together for mediation so that this commotion can end,” he said.

Previously, JK was reported by several parties to the police regarding alleged blasphemy.

One of them was GAMKI General Chairman Sahat Martin Philip Sinurat, who reported JK to Metro Jaya Police.

The report was made by GAMKI and several other organisations against the speech delivered by JK at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Mosque on 5 March 2026.

In its statement, GAMKI’s Central Executive Board quoted JK’s statement deemed controversial. The statement touched on the conflicts in Poso and Ambon in the early 2000s.

“Why is religion easily used as a reason for conflict like in Poso and Ambon? Because both Muslims and Christians believe that killing or being killed is martyrdom. During the conflict, both sides held that belief. If I kill a Muslim, I am a martyr. Even if I die, I am a martyr. In the end, it’s hard to stop,” read JK’s statement contested by GAMKI’s Central Executive Board.
