JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenhaj) has reminded Hajj pilgrims to limit non-essential physical activities in the lead-up to the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage.

Kemenhaj spokesperson, Maria Assegaf, encouraged all pilgrims to remain focused on maintaining their health in preparation for the peak phase of the Hajj pilgrimage in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina (Armuzna).

“We urge pilgrims to limit non-essential activities, especially during the day when temperatures are very high,” said Maria, during a press conference on Friday (15/5/2026).

Pilgrims are advised to gradually accustom themselves to walking, according to their abilities, so that they can complete all the rituals properly.

In addition to limiting non-essential activities, Kemenhaj reminded pilgrims to prioritise mandatory religious observances.

“Prioritise mandatory prayers, get plenty of rest, consume food regularly, and ensure adequate fluid intake by drinking enough water,” she said.

Maria explained that the Hajj pilgrimage is not just a ritual, but also a form of worship that requires good physical condition and involves a considerable amount of walking.

“Especially for elderly pilgrims, disabled pilgrims, and pilgrims with comorbidities or high-risk conditions, we ask that they always coordinate with healthcare workers, group leaders, or sector officials,” she added.

Pilgrims can immediately report any health complaints, such as fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, fever, or dehydration, to the officials.

“Use the time in the Holy Land wisely so that stamina remains good in preparation for Armuzna or the peak of the Hajj,” she concluded.
