Ahead of School Holiday Weekend, 250,519 Discounted Train Tickets Still Available

Ahead of the school holiday weekend, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has reminded the public that train tickets with a 30 per cent government discount, provided through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) at the Ministry of Transportation, are still available. The programme covers the travel period from 20 June to 5 July 2026. As of 26 June 2026 at 10.00 WIB, bookings for discounted tickets had reached 924,105, or 78.67 per cent of the total capacity of 1,174,624 seats. This leaves 250,519 discounted seats still available for the public to utilise while the programme quota lasts. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba noted that weekends are a favourite time for family travel, especially during the school holidays. She urged customers to plan their journeys early, check schedules regularly, and adjust departure times using the Access by KAI application. “There is still an opportunity for the public to take advantage of the 30 per cent discount tickets from the government via DJKA Kemenhub. Ahead of this weekend, we invite customers to choose their schedules more carefully so that family trips can be comfortable, orderly, and according to plan,” Anne said. Public interest in the programme has been strong on weekends and at the start of the holiday period. The highest booking volume was recorded on 21 June 2026 with 82,061 tickets, followed by 26 June 2026 with 80,544 tickets, and 20 June 2026 with 77,505 tickets. For the upcoming weekend, bookings for 27 June 2026 stood at 71,473 tickets and 28 June 2026 at 68,312 tickets. Anne explained that customers still planning their holidays could consider dates with lower demand. On 30 June 2026, booking volume was recorded at 34,255 tickets, followed by 1 July 2026 with 29,614 tickets, and 2 July 2026 with 30,913 tickets. This pattern can be a consideration for families wanting to arrange a more leisurely trip. “School holidays are often a moment for families to return to their hometowns, visit relatives, or introduce children to new experiences by train. Good planning will help customers get suitable travel options, including choice of date and departure time,” Anne said. In terms of departure stations, the highest utilisation of discount tickets was recorded at Pasarsenen Station with 111,570 tickets, followed by Yogyakarta Station with 65,625 tickets, Semarang Tawang Station with 43,705 tickets, Semarang Poncol Station with 39,644 tickets, and Lempuyangan Station with 37,087 tickets. Meanwhile, the destination stations with the highest volumes were Pasarsenen Station with 104,340 tickets, Yogyakarta Station with 69,339 tickets, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng Station with 42,607 tickets, Semarang Poncol Station with 38,332 tickets, and Solo Balapan Station with 36,968 tickets. This data indicates that school holiday travel remains strong on the main Java routes connecting city centres, educational areas, tourist destinations, and family hubs. The routes with the highest booking volumes were Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen with 15,665 tickets, Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan with 15,352 tickets, Pasarsenen–Yogyakarta with 13,235 tickets, Semarang Tawang–Solo Balapan with 10,870 tickets, and Surabaya Gubeng–Yogyakarta with 10,803 tickets. During the same period, the train services with the highest booking volumes under the discount programme were KA Joglosemarkerto with 47,062 tickets, KA Ambarawa Ekspres with 41,315 tickets, KA Pangrango with 37,592 tickets, KA Sawunggalih with 33,150 tickets, and KA Jayakarta with 28,682 tickets. Anne stated that government support through transport discounts provides room for the public to enjoy travel at a more affordable cost. For families, the programme helps manage holiday budgets. For regions, customer travel helps stimulate economic activity around stations, from culinary businesses and accommodation to onward transport and local entrepreneurs. “KAI is grateful for the government’s support through DJKA Kemenhub in providing transport discounts for the public. We hope this programme can expand access to safe, comfortable, and affordable travel during the school holidays,” Anne said. KAI urged customers to book tickets through the Access by KAI application, the official website kai.id, and other official sales channels. Customers are also reminded to arrive at the station early, ensure ticket data matches their identity, carry luggage according to regulations, and supervise children while in the station area and on board the train. “Safety and comfort are always the priority. Let us make the most of the school holiday period by being orderly, respecting fellow customers, and following the directions of officers during the journey,” Anne concluded.
