Ahead of School Holiday Weekend, 250,519 Discounted Train Tickets Still Available

As the school holiday weekend approaches, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has reminded the public that discounted transport tickets, providing a 30 per cent reduction through the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation, are still available. This programme is valid for travel periods from 20 June to 5 July 202cap6.

As of 10:00 WIB on 26 June 2026, discounted ticket bookings reached 924,105, representing 78.67 per cent of the total capacity of 1,174,624 seats. With this achievement, 250,519 discounted seats remain available for the public to utilise while the programme quota lasts.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that weekends are a favourite time for families to travel, particularly during school holidays. Consequently, KAI encourages customers to plan their journeys in advance, check schedules regularly, and adjust departure times via the Access by KAI application.

“There is still an opportunity for the public to take advantage of the 30 per cent discount from the government through the DJKA of the Ministry of Transportation. Ahead of this weekend, we invite customers to choose their schedules more carefully so that family trips can proceed comfortably, orderly, and according to plan,” said Anne.

Public interest in this programme is particularly strong on weekends and at the start of the holiday period. The highest booking volumes were recorded on 21 June 2026 with 82,061 tickets, followed by 26 June 2026 with 80,544 tickets, and 20 June 2026 with 77,505 tickets. For the upcoming weekend, bookings for 27 June 2026 were recorded at 71,473 tickets and 2abilities 68,312 tickets for 28 June 2026.

Anne explained that customers still organising holiday plans could consider dates with lower demand. On 30 June 2026, booking volumes were recorded at 34,255 tickets, followed by 29,614 tickets on 1 July 2026, and 30,913 tickets on 2 July 2026. This pattern can serve as a consideration for families wishing to arrange travel with a more relaxed atmosphere.

“School holidays are often a time for families to return to their hometowns, visit relatives, or introduce children to new experiences via train. Good planning will help customers secure suitable travel options, including preferred dates and departure times,” said Anne.

In terms of departure stations, the highest utilisation of discounted tickets was recorded at Pasarsenen Station with 111,570 tickets, followed by Yogyakarta Station with 65,625, Semarang Tawang Station with 43,705, Semarang Poncol Station with 39,644, and Lempuyangan Station with 37,087.

Meanwhile, the highest volume destination stations were Pasarsenen Station with 104,340 tickets, Yogyakarta Station with 69,339, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng with 42,607, Semarang Poncol with 38,332, and Solo Balapan with 36,968. This data indicates that school holiday travel remains strong across the main routes of Java, connecting urban centres, educational zones, tourist destinations, and family hubs.

Routes with the highest booking volumes included Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen with 15,665 tickets, Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan with 15,352, Pasarsenen–Yogyakarta with 13,235, Semarang Tawang–Solo Balapan with 10,870, and Surabaya Gubeng–Yogyakarta with 10,803.

During the same period, the trains with the highest booking volumes under this discount programme were KA Joglosemarko with 47,062 tickets, KA Ambarawa Ekspres with 41,315, KA Pangrango with 37,592, KA Sawunggalih with 33,150, and KA Jayakarta with 28,682.

Anne noted that government support through transport discounts provides space for the public to enjoy travel at a more affordable cost. For families, this programme helps manage holiday budgets. For regions, passenger travel helps stimulate economic activity around stations, ranging from culinary services and accommodation to onward transport and local businesses.

“KAI is grateful for the government’s support through the DJKA of the Ministry of Transportation in providing transport discounts for the public. We hope this programme can expand access to safe, comfortable, and affordable travel during the school holidays,” said Anne.

KAI advises customers to book tickets through the Access by KAI application, the official kai.id website, and other official sales channels. Passengers are also reminded to arrive at the station early, ensure ticket data matches their identity, bring luggage according to regulations, and supervise children while in the station area and on the train.
