JAKARTA — The former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, has admitted that he is still undergoing a health recovery process ahead of the reading of his plea (pleidoi) at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (2/6/2026). Nadiem expressed his gratitude for being able to undergo treatment at home in a more sterile and hygienic environment. He also extended his thanks to the panel of judges, whom he noted had provided humanitarian considerations regarding his condition.

“I am still in the recovery stage. Alhamdulillah, I can be treated at home, in a much more sterile and hygienic condition. Once again, my thanks to the Panel of Judges for their humanity,” Noded said before the session commenced. He mentioned that his recovery process is expected to continue for the next one to two months to prevent his condition from worsening. “Even though I am still slightly unwell, God willing, I will be able to attend today’s hearing,” he added.

He further noted that his legal team has been working tirelessly over the past few days to prepare a comprehensive defence. “All preparations have been made. My thanks to my legal team who have worked morning, noon, and night—to the point where they are on intravenous drips because they have not slept for three nights,” he said. Consequently, his side has prepared all the facts that will be detailed in the plea. He also asserted that all allegations brought by the prosecutors are unproven. “None of them are proven. Not a single accusation can be substantiated. Therefore, we must be truly comprehensive in outlining all those facts,” Nadiem concluded.
