PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, has reported that sales of Lebaran 2026 transport tickets reached 2,703,977 tickets as of Thursday 12 March at 10:00 WIB. This figure represents 60.1 per cent of the total 4.49 million seats provided for the travel period from 11 March to 1 April 2026.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, revealed that the public still has considerable opportunity to obtain travel tickets. Currently, approximately 1,794,719 seats remain available for both long-distance and local train services.

“Ticket availability remains abundant across various routes. We urge the public to plan their travel earlier to ensure a comfortable return journey,” said Anne in a written statement on Thursday 12 March 2026.

Specifically for long-distance train services, KAI recorded sales of 2.56 million tickets, or approximately 71.8 per cent of the total quota of 3.57 million seats. Accordingly, approximately 1.008 million seats remain available for booking during the exodus and return periods.

For local trains, occupancy has only reached 15.2 per cent with 140,521 tickets sold from the total 926,936 seats. This low figure is attributed to the typical booking pattern for local trains, which usually increases only seven days before departure.

Based on KAI data, the peak exodus is predicted to occur on 22 March with a volume reaching 247,440 passengers per day. Meanwhile, the peak return journey is estimated to occur on 24 March 2026 with a potential surge of up to 287,536 passengers in a single day.

Besides regular services, the People’s Economy Train has also become a favourite, with occupancy reaching 80.2 per cent. Of the total 27,368 seats provided, 21,955 tickets have been sold ahead of the peak exodus season.

KAI has assured that all facilities and operational coordination in the field are running optimally to serve the surge in passenger numbers. The company will continue to monitor the dynamics of ticket bookings, which are expected to continue rising over the coming days.
