Deputy Minister of Environment (Wamen LH) Diaz Hendropriyono is urging the strengthening of waste sorting practices from the source. This is necessary as an important step ahead of the total cessation of open dumping practices at final disposal sites (TPA) across Indonesia by the end of July 2026. The statement was delivered at the “North Jakarta 100% Waste Sorting Declaration” event at the refuse-derived fuel (RDF) facility in Rorotan, Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Saturday (18/4). “Without sorting, waste management cannot be completed properly. In addition, we will also close open dumping practices by the end of July. So in August, the 472 existing TPAs will be completed,” said Diaz, as reported by Antara. With the target to stop open dumping practices at TPAs in July, Diaz hopes to increase waste management achievements in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives. “This sorting programme is in line with the President’s directives, which aim for 100% managed waste by 2029. By completing the open dumping practices, we can raise the current waste management percentage from 26% to 57.7%,” stated Diaz. On the same occasion, Diaz expressed appreciation to the residents of Rorotan Sub-district for implementing the waste sorting programme well. He highlighted the use of sorting bins and the availability of a good waste bank facility to ensure that only residue is disposed of at TPAs or RDFs. Diaz hopes that Rorotan Sub-district can serve as a model for other sub-districts in implementing the waste sorting programme effectively and consistently. “Hopefully, from Rorotan, it can become an example for the other 30 sub-districts in North Jakarta, so that all can sort waste properly,” said Diaz. Previously, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Environmental Management Agency (KLHK/BPLH) provided assistance in the form of 400 drop points, 12,000 sorting bins, and 650 kitchen waste lodong (losida) units to the residents of Rorotan to support the success of this programme.
