Ahead of May Day, Monas Area Crowded with Buses and Labour Masses

Traffic in the Monumen Nasional (Monas) area is observed to be congested ahead of the International Labour Day (May Day) commemoration on Friday (1/5). The density is triggered by the arrival of buses transporting labour masses. These vehicles fill the streets with flags of various workers’ unions attached. The buses that arrive come from several regions, evident from the diverse vehicle licence plates. Vehicle flow slows as the volume of masses around the location increases. On the pedestrian side, masses from various labour elements crowd the area. Several street vendors are also seen selling along the road. Mass concentration is also visible in front of the Horse Statue area entrance. The number of workers at that point is larger with diverse union backgrounds. Security apparatus appears to be on guard to secure the situation. Workers’ union attributes dominate the area. Flags of the Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPI) are installed at several points, including on trees around the location. The workers wear uniforms of their respective organisations. Some wear red shirts inscribed with the Nusantara Workers’ Confederation (KSPN), while others wear light blue t-shirts inscribed with KSPSI. President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend International Labour Day (May Day) at the Monumen Nasional, Jakarta on 1 May 2026. “President Prabowo, God willing, is scheduled to attend the peak of the 2026 National Labour Day commemoration which will be held at the Monumen Nasional,” said Qodari in a press conference at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, Wednesday (29/4). Qodari stated that the government positions itself not in opposition to the working class. He said the government stands alongside the working class. He mentioned that the government will always be present as a protector for the working class as well as a guardian of job sustainability.
