Ahead of the implementation of mandatory halal certification on 17 October 2026, the Institute for Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics Research of the Indonesian Ulema Council (LPP_POM MUI) is strengthening its collaboration with local governments and various stakeholders in Bengkulu Province to encourage business readiness.

The President Director of LPPOM, Muti Arintawati, stated that halal certification should be viewed from a broader perspective, rather than merely as a way to fulfil a legal obligation. According to her, halal certification can also serve as part of an effort to strengthen competitiveness and open up opportunities for business development.

“We want halal certification not to stop at being a fulfilment of an obligation. Halal certification also needs to be seen as part of an effort to strengthen competitiveness and open opportunities for business expansion,” said Muti.

This strengthening of collaboration is part of the National Movement for the Implementation of Mandatory Halal October 2026, which is being carried out in various regions. In Bengkulu, the movement was launched through a collaboration between the Bengkulu Provincial Government, the Central MUI, and the Bengkulu Provincial MUI on Thursday (1/10/2026) at the Baitul Izzah Grand Mosque, Bengkulu.

Approximately 2,000 participants, including representatives from provincial and district/city governments, Islamic community organisations, religious leaders, and the general public, attended the event. As part of the proceedings, halal certificates were also symbolically presented to five business owners whose halal inspection processes were handled by LPPOM Bengkulu Province.
