The Deputy Secretary of the Central MUI Fatwa Commission and Sharia Assessor for the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), KH Abdul Muiz Ali, has urged Friday preachers to convey the importance of consuming halal products and obtaining halal certification to their congregations.

This appeal is made ahead of the conclusion of the phased mandatory halal certification period on 17 October 2026. According to Government Regulation (PP) Number 42 of 2024, the obligation for halal certification for micro and small enterprises (UMK) regarding food, beverages, slaughter products, and slaughtering services will enter its full stage after 17 October 2026.

“On Friday, 16 October 2026, one day before the 17 October 2026 deadline, Friday preachers can deliver sermon materials regarding the importance of consuming halal food and halal certification,” said Abdul Muiz Ali in a statement on Monday (28/9/2026).

According to him, education regarding halal is not merely about regulatory compliance, but also possesses a religious foundation. Islam, he noted, has provided guidance to the community to consume food and drink that is both halal (permissible) and tayyib (wholesome).

Allah SWT states in the Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 168: “O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth that is lawful and good, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is an enemy to you, clear.”
