Ahead of Mandalika MotoGP, NTB Prepares Alternative Destinations After Sade Village Fire

The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) provincial government is preparing a number of alternative cultural tourism destinations following a fire at the Sade traditional hamlet in Central Lombok. The move is intended to anticipate an overflow of tourists during the Mandalika MotoGP event while maintaining the potential for tourism economic activity on Lombok Island.

Head of the NTB Culture Office, Muhamad Ihwan, said the cultural destinations being prepared include Ende Traditional Village, Bayan Traditional Village, Sukarara Weaving Village, and Pringgasela Traditional Village.

“These various destinations need to be conditioned immediately so they are ready to receive the overflow of tourists,” he said when met after inspecting the fire at Sade traditional hamlet in Central Lombok on Sunday (23/8/2026).

Ihwan said the government would immediately coordinate with managers and cultural communities at these destinations to ensure readiness to receive tourist visits.

According to him, preparing alternative cultural destinations is important because the Mandalika MotoGP event on 9-11 October 2026 has the potential to increase tourist visits from various regions and countries to Lombok Island.

“In the near future we will coordinate with these various places,” Ihwan said.

Meanwhile, NTB Deputy Governor Indah Damayanti Putri said the revitalisation process for the Sade traditional hamlet requires joint discussion with various parties. The government needs input from traditional leaders so that revitalisation efforts in the area continue to respect the values and cultural character of the local community.

“Revitalising Sade hamlet requires sitting together because it requires input and information from the existing traditional leaders,” Indah said.
