Ahead of Lebaran 2026, food prices in Bangka Belitung province have experienced significant increases, particularly in chicken meat. On Sunday, 15 March, chicken meat prices at several traditional markets in Sungailiat, Bangka reached Rp43,000 per kilogramme (kg).

At Kite Market in Sungailiat, chicken meat prices which had previously been sold at Rp35,000 per kg have now surged to Rp43,000 per kg.

Yunita, one of the chicken meat traders at Kite Market in Sungailiat Bangka, confirmed that chicken meat prices have continuously risen since the beginning of Ramadan. “The prices have been increasing since early Ramadan until now, and they may well continue to rise closer to Lebaran,” said Yunita on Sunday, 15 March.

She noted that chicken meat prices initially stood at Rp32,000 per kg, then rose to Rp34,000 per kg, subsequently to Rp35,000 per kg, and now have reached Rp43,000 per kg. “This Rp43,000 is the cleaned and butchered price, but for whole unprocessed chicken it is Rp38,000 per kg,” she added.

Meanwhile, Bangka regent Feri Insani stated that generally food prices at Kite Market are relatively normal and stable. However, two basic commodities have experienced price increases: red chilli peppers and chicken meat.

“According to information from traders, our chicken meat stocks are insufficient whilst demand is high due to the Lunar New Year period, Ramadan, and the approaching Lebaran 2026,” said Feri.

According to him, to meet chicken meat requirements, chicken distributors have been forced to source supplies from Lampung.

“We will continue to monitor the movement of chicken meat prices, given that further increases remain possible as current stocks diminish,” he said.
