The Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), Cris Kuntadi, has highlighted the minimum wage increase for 2026 ahead of Labour Day. Kemnaker views the minimum wage increase as already considering the decent living needs of workers. This is the government’s effort to prosper the working class. Cris continued that the government is currently implementing several programmes to improve workers’ welfare. These include job loss insurance (JKP) of 60 per cent for six months, accompanied by access to job market information and retraining for those affected by layoffs. Wage Subsidy Assistance (BSU) is also distributed to 15 million workers at Rp600,000 per person. On the regulatory side, the government together with the DPR has completed discussions on the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (PPRT), which is expected to provide legal certainty for domestic workers. The next step is to intensify national vocational training for 100,000 university graduates to align with industry needs. “These placement policies and programmes are expected to provide strength for workers and labourers. Thus, Happy Labour Day 1 May 2026, one determination, one goal, prosperity together. Thank you,” explained Cris. “President Prabowo is scheduled to attend the peak of the 2026 National Labour Day commemoration to be held at the National Monument in Jakarta,” said the Head of the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, M Qodari, quoted from Kompas.com on Wednesday (29/4/2026). Prabowo’s presence is to support and protect the working class.
