Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) Aceh continues to develop human resources and enhance academic capabilities. The oldest and largest state university in Aceh is a centre for the advancement of knowledge in the westernmost region of the archipelago. Driven by a mission to educate the nation’s children, on Tuesday (9/6), the university, which was founded on 2 September 1961, inaugurated five new professors, the 242nd to 246th. The five professors were confirmed through an open session of the academic senate at the AAC Dayan Dawood Building on the Darussalam campus in Banda Aceh. The five inaugurated professors are Prof. Dr. Sulaiman, S.H., M.H., Prof. Dr. Zahratul Idami, S.H., M.Hum., Prof. Dr. Sri Walny Rahayu, S.H., M.Hum., Prof. Dr. Teuku Muttaqin Mansur, M.H., and Prof. Dr. Ners. Ardia Putra, S.Kep., MNS. USK Rector Professor Mirza Tabrani expressed high appreciation for the achievement of the highest academic position. USK now has 246 professors, comprising 179 in the sciences and 67 in social humanities. Professor Mirza stated that the presence of these professors represents academic strength to address national development challenges. ‘The professorship is not the end of the academic journey, but the beginning of an intellectual responsibility to bring real benefits to the wider community. USK belongs to the people of Aceh, and every piece of knowledge born from this campus must return as a solution to advance the region,’ said the Rector. The arrival of the five new professors brings crucial scholarly contributions. Prof. Dr. Sulaiman focuses on customary land law studies, whilst Prof. Dr. Zahratul Idami offers an Islamic leadership model for governance with integrity. In the economic and legal sector, Prof. Dr. Sri Walny Rahayu stresses the importance of reconstructing digital-based halal governance. In the field of customary law, Prof. Dr. Teuku Muttaqin Mansur made history with the first expertise in customary justice in Indonesia to emerge from USK. Completing the line-up, Prof. Dr. Ners. Ardia Putra contributes through a digital reporting system innovation to prevent violence against healthcare workers. The Rector reiterated that the role of professors must extend beyond the classroom, urging that their expertise be immediately implemented for the public interest. ‘We encourage all the expertise possessed by USK professors today to truly have a real impact on society. The title of professor must be a source of ideas and innovation capable of directly answering the community’s needs,’ he stressed. Professor Mirza concluded the ceremony with a message for the new professors to always remain humble. He added that the nobility of a true academic lies not in the title they hold, but in how much care and benefit they can provide to others. The procession was also attended by leaders of the Academic Senate, the Board of Trustees, Vice Rectors, Deans, and other invited guests.
