Ahead of Hajj Peak, Schools in Mecca Implement Online Learning
The Directorate General of Education in the Mecca region has announced that several selected schools in the holy city will be shifted from in-person learning to distance learning through digital platforms. This step coincides with the start of intensive preparations ahead of the implementation of the Hajj pilgrimage peak.
The policy aims to ensure the continuity of the educational process by activating the Madrasati platform and other digital platforms. Thus, students’ learning activities will not be disrupted.
This policy is part of the government’s integrated efforts to improve crowd management and traffic flow in the holy city. The decision particularly aims to reduce congestion and vehicle density on main roads to facilitate the movement of Hajj pilgrims and service personnel.
In addition, this step also supports the arrangement plan by assisting security and traffic authorities in implementing traffic management in the central area and main routes.
This decision will begin to be implemented next week, specifically on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The designated schools are selected based on geographical location and operational needs.
These schools include those in the central Haram area, namely schools around the Masjidil Haram in Mecca; schools on main routes, which are educational institutions located on major arterial roads such as the Second Ring Road and Third Ring Road; as well as schools that serve as central offices for government agencies involved in Hajj operations and services.
The Mecca Education Department emphasised that high-level coordination has been conducted with various relevant parties to ensure smooth operations during the Hajj season. The department also directs school principals and educators to closely monitor digital platforms so that students can optimally follow the scheduled learning during that period.
It was also stated that this decision reflects the flexibility of the education system in Saudi Arabia and its ability to adapt to large-scale national needs. Thus, the comfort of the pilgrims remains maintained, and educational activities can run smoothly simultaneously.
