One week ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH, prices of two essential food commodities — bird’s eye chillies and chicken — have experienced significant increases across several traditional markets in Bangka Regency.

According to monitoring by Forkominda Bangka at Kite Market in Sungailiat, bird’s eye chillies are being sold at Rp100,000 per kilogramme, whilst clean chicken meat is priced at Rp43,000 per kilogramme.

Bangka Regent Feri Insani confirmed the price increases for both commodities. “Bird’s eye chillies have reached Rp100,000 per kilogramme, up from Rp60,000 per kilogramme previously, representing an increase of around 67 per cent,” he stated on Thursday, 12 March.

For chicken, the price of processed, clean meat stands at Rp43,000 per kilogramme, whilst whole chicken is sold at Rp38,000 per kilogramme.

According to Insani, the increase in bird’s eye chilli prices is caused by limited supplies due to insufficient stock. “It is likely due to limited supply, so stock has decreased and prices have risen,” he explained.

For chicken, the same conditions have occurred, with traders beginning to import supplies from Lampung Province. “Currently, traders are selling chicken from Lampung, which is priced higher than usual,” he added.

Bangka Vice Regent Syahbudian noted that in addition to these two commodities, rice availability and prices remain stable. “We have inquired with traders, and prices are stable with safe stock through the post-Eid period,” he stated.

To prevent price manipulation, Bangka Police Chief AKBP Dedy Dwitya Putra announced that task force teams would be deployed to the field to monitor developments in basic food prices ahead of Eid. “The task force teams will be deployed to ensure that traders do not take advantage of the Eid moment by raising prices unilaterally,” he asserted.

Nationally, prices of two strategic food commodities — red bird’s eye chillies and broiler chicken — showed significant declines at the beginning of March 2026. Red bird’s eye chillies were priced at Rp55,000 per kilogramme, whilst large curly chillies were at Rp60,000 per kilogramme. Large curly chillies were sold at Rp70,000 per kilogramme, up from the previous price of only Rp45,000 per kilogramme.

The Ministry of Agriculture, together with chilli champions, implemented an Action Movement to Supply Chillies to Kramat Jati Central Market (PIKJ) in Jakarta. Prices of several food commodities at Jatinegara Market in East Jakarta began to change ahead of the sacred month of Ramadan, with red bird’s eye chillies at Rp55,000 per kilogramme and large curly chillies at Rp60,000 per kilogramme.
