Ahead of Eid, Kampung Melayu Terminal Transformed into Id Prayer Site
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, a joint team of officials cleaned the area of Kampung Melayu Terminal, Bidara Cina, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Thursday night (19/3/2026). The cleaning was carried out as preparation for the Id prayer site that will be held on Saturday (21/3/2026). A total of 105 personnel were deployed for the activity, involving various cross-agency elements. The terminal area is projected to accommodate hundreds of congregants. Bidara Cina Ward Head Suhartono stated that the cleaning was done thoroughly to ensure the comfort of residents during worship. “There were 105 people present in this activity, consisting of PPSU, Jatinegara Sector Fire Department, Transportation Agency, FKDM, Satpol PP, police sector and Koramil personnel, as well as RT and RW heads,” Suhartono said in his statement on Friday (20/3/2026). After that, other officials continued by scrubbing the terminal area to make it cleaner. “This location will later be used for the Eid al-Fitr prayer for residents of RW 01 Bidara Cina and surrounding areas. It can accommodate up to 700 people, with the organising committee from Musala Al Islah,” said Suhartono. Suhartono added that during the Id prayer, a number of personnel from the Jatinegara Sub-Department of Transportation Implementation Unit will be on standby to help manage traffic flow around the location. “Officials will assist the committee from RT, RW, LMK, and FKDM elements,” he said. He explained that the position of the crescent moon in Indonesia has not yet met the criteria of the Minister of Religious Affairs of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS), namely a minimum crescent height of 3 degrees and elongation of at least 6.4 degrees. “Based on calculation, the crescent data today does not meet MABIMS criteria,” said Nasaruddin in a press conference. Based on monitoring results at 117 points across Indonesia, there was not a single report of the crescent being sighted, so it was agreed that 1 Syawal falls on 21 March 2026.
