Jakarta (ANTARA) - The prices of both cut and native chickens at Tomang Barat Market, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, have increased ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. This rise has affected both live and cut chickens, in line with the growing needs of the public in the run-up to Eid 2026. “Now it’s 29 thousand, previously 25 thousand. That’s for live chickens,” said a trader named Tohir when met at Tomang Barat Market on Friday. Meanwhile, cut chicken prices have also seen a quite significant increase. Currently, cut chicken is priced at Rp45 thousand per kilogram, up from the previous normal price of around Rp38 thousand to Rp40 thousand per kilogram (kg). “It’s H-5 now, just recently it jumped by around 5 thousand more per kilo,” he said. Besides cut chicken, native chicken prices have also risen, though not as much as broiler chickens. Currently, live native chickens are sold for around Rp90 thousand to Rp95 thousand per bird. Previously, Tohir mentioned, native chicken prices were only around Rp65 thousand to Rp70 thousand per bird. “The increase isn’t much, but it’s there. Now it’s around Rp90 to Rp95 thousand,” said Tohir. According to Tohir, demand for native chickens is quite high, especially from the culinary business sector like restaurants. “Many are looking for native chickens, usually for restaurants or for Eid dishes, opor,” he said.
