Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate (Bareskrim) has cracked down on the distribution of nine tonnes of expired imported frozen meat that were to be sold in traditional markets for consumption ahead of Lebaran. Kombes Teuku Arsya Khadafi, head of Bareskrim’s Resmob, said three trucks carrying the expired meat were seized during the operation. The suspects and evidence have been brought to Bareskrim for questioning and further investigation, he said. For the next steps, investigators will study the possibility of other distribution networks involved in the circulation of the expired meat. The Police are part of the Saber Sapu Bersih (Saber) Task Force on Price, Security, and Food Quality Violations to monitor food in the run-up to National Religious Holidays (HBKN), from Chinese New Year through Ramadan to Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr.
