Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, Chilli Prices in Malang Remain Elevated
MALANG — The Malang District Food Security Task Force conducted a review of stock levels and price stability of essential and important commodities (Bapokting) ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026 in the market on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Among the various commodities reviewed, chilli prices were observed to remain relatively elevated ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebration in 2026.
Deputy Head of the District Food Security Task Force, Police Inspector Transtoto Argo, stated that bird’s eye chillies were priced at Rp 80,000 per kilogramme, whilst large chillies were priced at Rp 32,000 per kilogramme.
“However, these prices are not fixed. They fluctuate. Sometimes they rise today and fall again tomorrow,” he said when met on Friday, 13 March 2026.
“But in general, chilli commodity supply so far has been less than demand ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebration. Therefore, it is understandable that prices tend to remain elevated,” he added.
Besides chillies, Transtoto noted that beef prices have also tended to increase, rising from Rp 120,000 to Rp 130,000 per kilogramme.
Meanwhile, for other commodities, Transtoto confirmed that prices are currently observed to remain stable.
“Supplies are also still secure,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, a grocery trader at Kepanjen Market, Suma, confirmed that chilli prices remain elevated among the various essential commodities.
These stood at Rp 80,000 per kilogramme for bird’s eye chillies and Rp 32,000 per kilogramme for large chillies.
Although, according to Suma, these prices were considered to have fallen compared to the pre-Ramadan period.
“Before Ramadan, prices reached Rp 120,000 per kilogramme,” he said when met.
However, Suma confirmed that the supply of chilli commodities from producers has been steady throughout.
“Supply is steady. There is no shortage,” he said.
