The Secretary of Indonesia’s National Border Management Agency (BNPP RI), Komjen Pol. Makhruzi Rahman, conducted an inspection of flood-affected areas in Kampung Landuh, Aceh Tamiang District, to ensure that post-disaster mud and debris clearance operations are proceeding optimally so that community activities can recover swiftly.

“We hope that before Eid al-Fitr, the majority of mud and debris will have been cleared so that community mobility returns to normal. After that, the clearing will continue to other villages that are also affected,” Makhruzi stated in a statement received on 17 March.

He explained that the clearing efforts are part of the integrated disaster management being undertaken by BNPP RI in several flood-affected areas in Aceh, including Pidie Jaya, Bireuen, and Aceh Tamiang districts. Specifically in Aceh Tamiang, clearing activities are concentrated in Kampung Landuh with a completion target of fourteen days.

“I have been directly mandated by the Minister of Home Affairs, who is the Head of BNPP RI, to accelerate the recovery of flood-affected areas in Aceh by deploying heavy equipment including excavators and dump trucks to clear mud material that has blocked road access,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Acting Regional Secretary of Aceh Tamiang District, Syuibun Anwar, expressed appreciation for BNPP RI’s swift action and concern in assisting disaster-affected communities.

“The Aceh Tamiang District Government extends its highest thanks and appreciation to BNPP RI and its delegation for coming directly to help the community, especially in clearing the Kampung Landuh area affected by flooding,” said Syuibun Anwar.

The Interior Minister Tito Karnavian has urged BNPP RI to accelerate development in border regions. Messages of peace, tranquillity, and harmony must continue to be disseminated alongside activities that benefit communities. Many positive initiatives can be undertaken by BNPP, particularly with the existence of Cross-Border Checkpoints (PLBN).
