Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, BI Purwokerto Reaches 3T Areas for Currency Exchange
Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026, the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Purwokerto, Central Java has prepared Rp3.5 trillion for currency exchange services during Ramadan. Not only has the allocation been increased, BI has also expanded service reach to backward, frontier and outermost regions (3T), including Kampung Laut in Cilacap Regency. By mid-Ramadan, currency exchange in BI Purwokerto’s area of operation had reached Rp1.6 trillion. Exchanges are dominated by small denominations from Rp2,000 to Rp50,000, which are the most needed for Eid al-Fitr preparations. Head of BI Purwokerto, Christoveny, said this year’s exchange programme is packaged as Semarak Rupiah Ramadan and Berkah Idulfitri (Serambi) 2026. ‘The total funds we have prepared reach Rp3.5 trillion, larger than last year. The service covers four regencies: Banyumas, Cilacap, Banjarnegara and Purbalingga. We also extend to 3T areas such as Kampung Laut,’ he said. He noted that demand for small-denomination exchanges has grown year-on-year in line with improving economic conditions and rising household consumption during Ramadan. ‘The public’s enthusiasm is very high. Along with positive economic growth, the demand for small denominations is rising.’ The exchange is administered digitally via the PINTAR app to ensure orderly and even distribution. To broaden access, BI Purwokerto partnered with banks, opening more than 50 teller points. In addition, services are available at 40 strategic points in the former Banyumas Residency area, such as mosques, public service malls, and sports halls. ‘We have opened services at GOR Satria with a quota of more than a thousand exchange packages,’ Christoveny added. A door-to-door service is also conducted to reach coastal and riverbank communities, including Kampung Laut in Cilacap, to ensure all community groups can access banknotes fit for circulation ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
