Ahead of Eid al-Adha, West Jakarta residents urged to implement eco qurban
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) is urging the public to implement the principles of eco qurban, or environmentally friendly slaughtering and distribution of sacrificial animal meat.
Head of the Public Welfare Section of the West Jakarta Regional Secretariat, Abdurrahman Anwar, stated that these principles involve avoiding single-use plastics, particularly black ones, for wrapping sacrificial meat.
“In the past, there were bamboo baskets, and hopefully these can also be used as an alternative to reduce waste or plastic rubbish,” said Anwar during the Socialisation of Slaughtering Procedures and Handling of Sacrificial Animal Meat at the mayor’s office on Wednesday.
According to him, there are still many environmentally friendly containers for wrapping sacrificial meat, such as bamboo baskets (woven), banana leaves, or reusable food containers that recipients can bring themselves.
“It is better to use woven containers that have been socialised since last year, or even better, use one’s own containers. This step is taken to reduce the accumulation of rubbish,” he said.
He also asked the public and organising committees for sacrificial animal slaughtering to socialise the use of environmentally friendly containers to the recipients of the sacrificial meat.
It is known that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has informed about the eco qurban principles in the implementation of Eid al-Adha.
The concept promotes practices in organising sacrificial animal slaughtering that are based on environmental protection and management.
One of the eco qurban principles is the use of environmentally friendly packaging for sacrificial meat, such as bamboo baskets, banana leaves, or personal reusable food containers.
