Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 AH, Tangsel Mayor Urges Residents to Use Environmentally Friendly Containers
Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 AH, the Mayor of South Tangerang (Tangsel), Benyamin Davnie, urged residents and the sacrifice committee to use environmentally friendly containers when distributing the meat to reduce single-use plastic bags. ‘We want the community to observe the rites with calmness and reverence, while keeping the environment clean and conducive,’ he said in a press release received by Kompas.com on Friday, 22 May 2026. In addition to the appeal, the Tangsel City Government is making various preparations to ensure Eid al-Adha proceeds safely, orderly, and smoothly. Benyamin stressed the importance of cross-OPD coordination, from supervising sacrificial animals, environmental cleanliness, regulation of stalls, to distribution and post-slaughter waste management. The supervision is conducted to ensure the sacrificial animals are healthy, of proper age, and meet the requirements of Islamic law and health standards. The team of veterinary doctors and officers also conduct comprehensive physical and administrative checks, including ensuring there are no indications of contagious diseases. In addition to physical and administrative checks, education for traders and the sacrifice committee on proper handling and hygienic slaughter procedures is ongoing. Amid preparations for the religious holiday, the Tangsel City Government ensures public services continue to run optimally during Eid al-Adha. Benyamin invites the community to view Eid al-Adha as an opportunity to strengthen the values of sincerity, care, and togetherness. He says the spirit of sacrifice teaches people to share with those in need and to strengthen social ties in their local communities.
